Thom
The product of a joke that wasn't really a joke
and a very lonely drunken evening and well, a breakdown of sorts.
Phil
Some of my favourite lyrics on the album - 'Gravity
always wins' - what a line.
Ed
This took a while to record only because it was
better Thom just singing it with an acoustic guitar. Amazing lyrics.
Jonny
My favourite lyrics on the album. Writing the string
parts was my studio highlight, in a megalomaniac kinda way.
Colin
Er...Deep?.
Ed
When we first recorded Fake Plastic Trees
it was terrible! It sounded like Guns n' Roses. It was awful! It was like loud
guitars... You could envisage one of these dreadful hilltop, Grand Canyon-esque
videos. It was long hair flowing.
John Leckie avait persuadé le groupe d'aller voir Jeff
Buckley au London's Garage (1er septembre 1994).
John Leckie
He realised that you could sing like he did, in
falsetto, without sounding drippy
Thom
That was one of the worst days for me. I spent the
first five or six hours at the studio just throwing a wobbly. I shouted at everyone
and then John Leckie sent everybody else away. He sat me down and I did a guide
vocal on Fake Plastic Trees.
Colin
Thom played it in three takes, then burst into tears
afterwards. And that's what we used for the record.
Colin
John Leckie
I said to Jonny, 'We'd better have something for
them to play'. So he just sat down there and then and scored it.
Nigel Godrich
I remember one time, during the recording of Fake
Plastic Trees, Thom Yorke was singing with nothing else than his acoustic
guitar, it was deeply moving. When he sings, he's as intense in an empty studio
as he could be in front of a 20,000 people crowd. Then again, in everyday life,
he's a very funny and adorable guy.
Jonny
I like playing the stuff where I don't know what
I'm gonna play. Like the end of Fake Plastic Trees or the end of Paranoid
Android - stuff where I can do anything and no one notices or cares.
Thom
Ed
I think you're right, I think Fake Plastic Trees
and Street Spirit... I prefer these songs far more than Creep.
Creep was of its time but songs like that, [Fake Plastic Trees]
everytime we play it and Thom starts strumming on that acoustic and its like
voom! It hits you. It's a really powerful song.
Thom
This is the music to a film called Clueless,
which makes perfect sense to me. It's a song about going shopping.
ce qui me semble normal. La chanson parle de shopping.
