Avant, ce titre était encore plus calme et plus dépouillé. Les sons étranges sur le disque sont faits par Ed à la guitare, mais joués tout seuls, sans entendre ce qui se passait derrière. Il a trouvé ça étrange, à juste titre. En fait, il maugréait pendant toute la prise...

ya, because basically the acoustic guitar thom playing, the bass and drums had all been done and hmm and the track needed some kind of effects stuff on it i guess...and when jonny and i were playing...
ouais, parce que la guitare acoustique de thom, la basse et la batterie étaient déjà faites, et je crois que le morceau avait encore besoin d'effets spéciaux... et quand jonny et moi jouions...

the old flow trick! and we were trying to add some kind layers and textures to it and it wasn't really working when the tape was rolling so they said, you know they said, you know we'll stop the tape from rolling and we'll roll the tape but you won't hear it just play odelay funny noisy for three and half minutes and do that four or five times... and we did that and hmm... and i remember thinking at the time... bastards! you know... never recorded like this before... how are you supposed to do it...
le vieux truc ! et nous essayions d'y ajouter des sortes de couches et de textures et ça ne marchait pas vraiment à l'écoute de la bande, alors ils ont dit, vous savez ce qu'ils ont dit, on va arrêter la bande et tu vas faire des bruits bizarres à la guitare pendant trois minutes et demi, quatre ou cinq fois... et je me souviens avoir pensé à ce moment-là... les salauds ! vous savez... jamais enregistré comme ça... comment je suis supposé faire ça...

Mais nous sommes arrivés avec environ six pistes avec des couleurs différentes, on pouvait passer de l'une à l'autre pour changer l'ambiance de la chanson...

The only song that I've ever played on when I was not allowed to hear the backing track. "Just make whooping oodle noises for three minutes", was the cry from the control room. 'Bastards', I thought at the time.

The backing vocal (counter-melody) in the final chorus is utterly beautiful - so are Ed's bubbles in the second verse....
