Only if you ever want a promotion.
Cheekiness aside, Apple does hire a lot of gays to work for them, but it's not really a coordinated or even intentional choice. I think it is a byproduct of the same demographics that tend to flock to Apple as users anyway.
Getting back the leading joke, Apple does, however, have a certain propensity for promoting minorities¹ over more qualified individuals. In my time at Apple, I've repeatedly seen less qualified minorities promoted over more qualified individuals in a large number of cases. The unfortunate part is that they're not even promoted on the quasi-altruistic pretenses of equality, but rather out of fear of being sued for discrimination. The inside joke was always that being a straight white male was a sure way to a promotion anywhere else in the world, but at Apple it meant you'd never go anywhere.
¹ That is, anyone except straight white males.
